Being new to the list, I've enjoyed much and learned much. Not having a band
or being a musician, I just delete the band-business stuff. I also just scan
the jazz education listings. I'm not much into minutia, but I do enjoy
people reminding me of recordings I haven't heard since the 1960's, or
giving me a link to vintage movie clips. I've been introduced to several
working bands I'd never have known about. I've found the personalities and
points-of-view help to broaden my perspective. So bring on the guys who
question whether it was Oliver or Nelson soloing on a 1928 Dixie Syncopators
recording. Bring on the musicians looking for work. Bring on the leaders
looking for lead sheets. Bring on the evangelists for a new band out of
Scotland. It's just one big pot of gumbo.
As long as everyone remembers and respects the group's name, we should get
along OK.
