Any appreciative audience is valued, but when you least suspect it . . .
It's even better.
Played for a great group of kids at Vassar College and afterwards, having a
beer with one of the older (21+ and legal) students, I cherished this
accolade, "You know? That was a lot better than I thought it was going to
be."
