Dixieland Jazz Night Clubs: In NYC there is:

Arthur's Tavern 57 Grove St. (N.W. corner of Grove and 7th Ave. South at
Sheridan Square) 212-675-6879
Since 1937. Longest continually run jazz club in NYC. No cover charge. Jazz:
7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Dixieland jazz: 8 p.m. - 11 p.m.
The Creole Cooking Jazz Band, Grove Street Stompers and Sweet Georgia Brown
have been playing here weekly forever, and for good reason: they rock the
house.

And on a Dixieland Once a Week is:

Birdland 315 West 44th Street (btwn. 8th and 9th) 212-581-3080
Dixieland once a week with Gully Low Jazz Band

Plus many other Dixieland once a week joints.

However, I think that the Dixieland Musicians in NYC are working at these
joints for a mere pittance. Some at $40 a night, maybe some for less.

Like mopo says, there are very few jazz nightclubs featuring Dixieland these
days. And most of those that do, (The Landing is certainly an exception)
don't pay the band a hell of a lot.

Of course, the same can be said for the "modern" guys and the "modern Jazz"
clubs in the USA. They don't make/pay a lot either.

That being said, I think that there are many more "big time" Modern Jazzers
working in Concerts, Festivals etc., than there are big time OKOM guys
working in concerts festivals etc. And that overall, the big time Modern
Jazzers make a hell of a lot more money than their big time OKOM
counterparts.

Perhaps they are a lot more Popular? Or maybe crossover more? Like they get
the Grammys, etc. (Michael Brecker 11; Arturo Sandoval 3, Charlie Hayden 3,
Randy Brecker at least 5; Wynton Marsalis at least 9, Phil Woods, at least
4, Herbie Hancock 10, Joe Lovano 2, etc., etc., etc.)

Jazz gets a very small audience share in the USA and it seems that most of
that audience is for Modern Jazz.

Cheers,
Steve Barbone
