I think that Michael White may be a week later at The Vanguard this year . .
. Check their web site.

If you are on the Jersey side and don't want to fight the traffic, come hear
Doctor Dubious at 8:15 and 10:15 PM at First Night Maplewood South Orange,
alternating sets with "Swing Town."

Wishing all DJML'rs a Happy New Year and great music for 2008,

Subject: [Dixielandjazz] Rebirth Brass Band NYC - NYE.

Can't afford Vince G and the Nighthawks? OK, head on down to B. B. King's
place to catch Rebirth Brass. Or go to the Village Vanguard to hear the
Liberty Jazz Band of New Orleans (Dr. Michael White)

Or if you are going to Atlantic City, NJ, stop by the Showboat Casino and
say hello to Paul Grant and me from 9PM to Midnight in the Buffet Area. The
quartet is Paul Grant's New Orleans Swing. The rest of my band with two subs
(for Paul and me) is playing a private party on the main line.

No doubt there is lots more OKOM on NYE in the Boston, NYC, Philadelphia,
Washington DC corridor as joints in these cities are jumpin.

Cheers,
Steve Barbone

REBIRTH BRASS BAND

Rebirth, the best brass band in New Orleans, doesn¹t need any more equipment
than its members can carry themselves: the horns and drums they¹d shoulder
in a street parade. When the band plays a small New Orleans club, it doesn¹t
bother with amplification, since its trumpets, trombones and sousaphone
easily shake rafters and hips all by themselves. Rebirth upholds and updates
the Crescent City¹s time-honored tradition of party and funeral music made
not for marching but for strutting, and like the other brass bands of its
generation Rebirth merges the syncopated, second-line swing of vintage brass
bands with some serious funk. Its arrangements are burly and muscular; they
hit one peak only to push toward a higher one. And as tight as the band is,
there¹s improvisation everywhere. At 1:30 a.m., B. B. King Blues Club &
Grill, 243 West 42nd Street, Manhattan, (212) 997-4144; $25 in advance, $30
at the door. JON PARELES - NY TIMES - 12/28/07

DR. MICHAEL WHITE & THE LIBERTY JAZZ BAND OF NEW ORLEANS

Music by Dr. Michael White's Original Liberty Jazz Band of New Orleans. 16th
Anniversary. Enjoy Cajun snacks, party favors and great jazz! Door
admission: $125.00. Drink minimum: $25.00. There will be 2 sets, 9:30 PM &
11:30 PM. The total of $150.00 (admission & minimum) is good for both!
Village Vanguard, 178 Seventh Avenue South, NYC 212-555-4037. (One of the
oldest continuously operating jazz clubs in the world, since 1935)
