When he really gets going he plays the finger cymbals and tuba at the  
same time (but I have not seen him play all three at once.)

In my opinion, if a band has been playing together long enough and  
"plays well together" then trying a few tricks makes things  
interesting for both the band and the audience. It can be overdone.

  On the other hand, unsupported solos, off-beats and other such  
things in an unrehearsed situation can be deadly! (for the best  
example of what I mean, try a listen to the Bonzo Dog Band's  
recording of "Jazz: Delicious Hot, Disgusting Cold."
