This is the way I see it.  Play with energy, every bit you got, during the
whole set, and the audience will be on their feet at the end. Old people,
young people, doesn't matter.  They can feel the energy.  (Oops!  Along with
the energy, you gotta have pretty good music, also, or the energy thing
won't work.)  
 
My rule, if I don't have to change my shirt at the end of a set, I didn't
give it all I got.
