There is an active group via Yahoo identified as Black Banjo, Then and  Now.

There are active members of that group who are knowledgeable about  hambones, 
juba, etc.  There are likely archived  related discussions.  In just now 
doing a quick look at their files, I  could only find material on bone-playing, as 
in cow rib bones and the carved  wooden descendants.
