Hi Al:
Jeans are considered Formal Attire in Texas ain't they??
Heck in the 70,s I had a custom tailored, "Nudie" Levi Tuxedo with
rhinestones and all Bell bottomed ones at that, looked rather smashing
in it too or so I was told many times, sold in in the 90,s for a lot
more than it cost me to get it made too. I was however refused
entrance to an Atlanta Nightclub while wearing it one evening as they
had a strict policy of NO Jeans or Levi. I got a real laugh out of
that one and the guy at the door in his velvet Jacket and Pants off the
rack at J.C. Penny's being as cool as he wanted to be.
Ahhh show biz..

Funny you should bring this up. In New York my group(s)
always wore either Tuxedo Band Jackets, regular tuxedos
and Bow Ties. Always dressed appropriately for gigs.
Moved to Texas in 2002. My first experiences playing
weddings and other "formal" parties was startling.
Guests were dressed in jeans and other casual wear.
Band dresses according to "venue". Either all black or
Tux. All black usually a polo shirt + black dress pants
etc.
Last night we played trio for a Casablanca fun raiser.
It was sponsored by a church group. I asked about
dress code for the band. Response was "casual".
I went out and purchased Red Fez hats to complement
the atmosphere.
We received many remarks about the hats.
It was a great opportunity to hand out a business card.
Cheers,
Al
