[Dixielandjazz] BMI

I knew a girl who worked for BMI or ASCAP or one of those - she would go to
a bar, unannounced, sit down, order a beer, and talk to the bartender. She'd
ask, "How many people do y'all get in here on a weekend?" Of course, the guy
would double his real head count. Then she'd ask about the music the bands
play, she'd ask, "Do they play such-and-such", of course the guy would say,
"Yeah, that's one of their best tunes", even if he'd never heard of it
before. Then she'd tell them who she was and hit them with having to buy a
license, based on the (inflated by them) head count, and because all the
songs she asked about were licensed by her organization.
