[Dixielandjazz] How we listen to music

That's really true of me too. I never listen to lyrics and I guess I have
turned it into a science or handicap more or less.
A few years ago I started singing with my band. I have always had the
luxury or misfortune depending on how you look at it to have a singer with
the band. But times change and I have difficulty getting the money for the
extra mouth to feed so............... I started singing. (that'll teach em)
I have always thought of myself as a reasonably bright person but I found
out that I just can't memorize the words to tunes. No matter how many times
I go through a tune it just doesn't happen reliably enough. I think it's a
right left brain thing but I don't remember telephone numbers or streets
either. I remember the pattern of buttons on the telephone kind of like a
picture. I have to read lyrics. Funny thing I can remember the words to
tunes from my youth without any problem and I have memorized a lot of other
stuff over the years.
I think that if you ignore a skill long enough it goes away.
