So, Mr. Barbone, et. al., where did all these transcriptions end up?
As I practice my instruments, I've always thought that it would be
wonderful to have transcriptions to play in order to see how the
artists played their solos. Recently I have been trying to learn to
play guitar solos and it seems that having transcriptions of other
instrumental solos would be the way to go, playing transcriptions of
artists like Vic Dickenson, Ruby Braff, Lester Young, etc. There must
be hundreds of thousands of transcriptions out there lying dormant in
musicians' closets and file drawers because once upon a time they took
the time (often many hours) to pick up and drop a needle countless
numbers of times on an an LP, 45, or 78, and unfortunately they are
unavailable. Can anyone tell me if they know of a particular
University of other facility that has a "transcriptions section" in the
music section of their library where one might go to get copies?
Perhaps we could locate a library interested in housing such items, and
we could send our transcriptions there, to be filed for future
research.
P.S. Bill Guner - -do you have any washboard solo transcriptions you
could contribute? (especially of that 12-washboard symphony you wrote
- -did you ever get the funding you sought to get it performed
publicly?)
