Big Oops!
When I wrote about transcribing in a reply to a post, my brain farted on
me and I misspoke myself. I meant to say Bill Challis transcribed the
Bix Piano Suite,
not Paul Mertz. The quote about Bill having trouble getting Bix to play
it a second time without composing new stuff before he coul get the
first version down was correct except that it was told to me by Paul
Mertz as told to him by Challis. He was at Bix Fest when he sat in with
our old Jack Pines Savages, and related it as Challis had told him about
it. (They were contemporaries at the time in NY..)
It was also Challis that arranged the guitar version by the Pizzarelli
clan.
Just credit it to my aging brain and sagging inertia. Being stupid is
not hard - I do it several times a day. But don't we all? Don't answer
that -- lurkers are readinge very word and taking notes!!
