The easy  way to understand a sus4, or suspended fourth function, is to think 
 of two traditional endings (historically); i.e., either the V to I, or  the 
IV to I. The latter is the feeling of the sus4. In effect, you are playing  
and holding the IV, while playing the I. This creates a tension  that naturally 
resolves to the pure I.
