Tony DeNicola
A native of Trenton who resides there now, DeNicola is a crafty drummer who
has played at jazz festivals and clubs around the United States with
swing-based aces such as Kenny Davern, Dick Hyman and Ralph Sutton. He can
be heard on Davern's "Smiles" and "The Rhythm Men" (Arbors) CDs.

"Just thought you would like to know .... My cousin Tony DeNicola died today
of a massive heart atteck. I don't know what the arrangements are but I
guess sometime next week. This was a big shock."

"Tony DeNicola Obit -Trenton Times
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Tony DeNicola, 79, died Saturday in the Fox Chase Cancer
Center in Philadelphia.
Born in Pennington, he had resided in Lawrenceville for 40 years.
Tony became a professional drummer while still in high school. He went on to
play in the Army Band then traveled extensively with big band leaders:
Freddy Martin, Charlie Ventura and Harry James. After working with the Harry
James Band, Tony returned to New Jersey, attending Trenton State College for
a master's degree in music. He became a professor of music teaching at the
college for many years. He continued to play with local and international
musicians, notably Kenny Davern and many other jazz greats. Tony was honored
with numerous jazz awards including the first New Jersey "Jazz Musician of
the Year" award. He was also a master gardener of Pennington.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Son of the late Antonio and Constance Ranelli DeNicola, he is survived by a
son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Nancy DeNicola; two daughters, Constance
DeNicola and Marianne Castagna; and his companion Audrey Jackson. Also
surviving are seven grandchildren, John and Julie Embley, Morgan, Matthew
and Mallory Castagna and Anthony and Amanda DeNicola; a brother, Robert
DeNicola; and two nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11 a.m. Friday in the Church of
St. Ann in Lawrenceville.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Hamilton.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in
Tony's memory be made to the Fox Chase Cancer Center, 7701 Burholme Ave.,
Philadelphia, PA 19111. "'
