JUBILEE 2007 UPDATE
Jubilee promo paper is in process and will be out by November 1st.
Jubilee lineup is almost complete. There are some exciting new bands: Lost
Weekend
(popular Western Swing from Bay Area); High Street Jazz Band, Club 7, After
Midnight,
N?Awlins Gumbo Kings, New Orleans Ale Stars (Simon Stribling), Moonlight
Swing Orchestra
(Glenn Miller cover band),

and two blues bands: Nightcry, and Kathleen Cairns w/Tattoo Blue.

STJS focuses a lot on education, but also wants to promote live jazz.

Q: This early-1900s child prodigy on clarinet and sop. sax, ______ ______,
was featured
by some of the top bands in New Orleans before moving to Chicago in 1917.
After touring
Europe with Louis Mitchell's Jazz Kings, he returned to the U.S. and made
his recording
debut in 1923 with pianist/composer ________ ________ and appeared on
several of
his records, including a classic session with the Clarence Williams ____
____, featuring
Louis Armstrong, whom he knew as a child in New Orleans. He played in an
early version
of Duke Ellington's _______________ but never recorded with them. From 1925
to 1929,
Bechet lived and played in Europe. While in Paris, Bechet got into a dispute
with
another musician, a gun fight broke out, and Bechet spent ___ year(s) in a
French
jail. In 1938, he had a
hit record with "__________." In the 40s, he worked regularly in New York
with _____ ______. Bechet returned to _____ in 1952 and recorded hit records
that
rivaled the sales of pop stars. He was one of the great soloists in jazz
history.
