Trumpeter George Thow did play with the band but became part of management, occasionally playing in what I think was called the "Hotsy-Totsy Gang" dixieland group (or was that someone else?). Other musicians who played with Welk were Bob Havens, trombone, and Skeets Herfurt,alto/reeds. The band improved when drummer Oliver Jackson took over from Welk's cousin, "Johnny Klein (?)" The Welk show, first telecast July 2, 1955, is still part of the US Public Broadcasting System (PBS) program every week, and if the mute is used wisely, is worth a few minutes while reading, or eating, or drinking or...
