The SHURE 58 or 57 are the most popular all around microphones.  I prefer the 
58 personally.  There are certainly more sophisticated mics for specific 
purposes... for example a lot of reed/clarinet players like the Sennheiser because 
it has a smooth mellow sound.  IMHO you can't go wrong with the Shure 58's 
for all around use.... It is also a very rugged mic.  

You should be able to get them via ebay... or through any good music supply 
store like sam Ash, guitar center... or lot's of mail order outlets.... google 
Shure micophones and you should have lot's of sources.
