Before things get out of hand, please note that my comments on DAT, mp3,
etc., were in answer to Gunter's email, and all of my comments were
concerning professional audio gear. I have little knowledge of the domestic
market, and can't make any comments there. There is absolutely no
connection whatsoever concerning quality between professional & domestic
gear, no matter what your salesman tells you.

I remember when I was a kid, they used to always say "this is the best you
can get before you get into the professional level", like getting
professional gear was the next step up from what he was trying to sell me!
I'm talking hi-fi speakers, etc., which I was shopping around for in those
days.

A professional studio speaker (pair of 'em with amplifiers) will set a
studio back at least $20,000, so how your local dealer can lay it on you
that the speakers he's selling you for $500 is the next step to the
professional gear is beyond me.

So, any comments that I may have made, should not be construed as though I
wasn't clued in on what is available. I'm just speaking on a different
level, and not meaning to sound snooty about it. It's just the bit I happen
to know.

Jim
