'It's a Great Feeling' for Eddie Erickson
By Mac McDonald

Guitarist, banjo man extraordinaire, singer and comic Eddie Erickson has
been a mainstay
on the local music scene for so long, it comes as a surprise that his latest
CD,
"It's a Great Feeling," is only his second "solo" album under his own
moniker.
The first was "'Fast Eddie' Erickson & Friends: On Easy Street," but he
shares billing
and appears as a guest on many more.
Eddie has played and/or recorded with Jake Stock & The Abalone Stompers,
Jackie Coon,
Big Mama Sue, Bill Dendle, Dave Frishberg, spent two years at the Golden
Horseshoe
in Disneyland and seven as leader of the Riverboat Rascals at Disney World.
If it's possible, the new CD is the quintessential "Fast Eddie" CD, filled
with 19
tunes of jazz, Dixieland, Tin Pan Alley, swing, novelty and great tunes from
the
'20s and '30s as well as Eddie's trademark wit and wisdom.
Well, wit at least. Eddie would be the first to tell you he's a bit of a
goofball,
never one to take himself too seriously or show off to bring attention to
himself.
As educator Michael Steinman says in his liner notes: "He should have his
face on
a commemorative stamp as one of art's joyous prophets. This rash statement
is based
on his inspired clowning -- part Goofy, part highbrow standup; there's the
mellow,
soulful crooning that could break your heart; there's the inspired guitar
and banjo
playing; there are the duets with Becky Kilgore that show off Eddie as a
first-rate
romantic actor."
And that's just in the first paragraph of the liner notes!
To celebrate the release, Eddie and vocalist Kilgore will party Saturday
afternoon
from 2 to 5 p.m. followed by a concert at 7:30 p.m. with pianist Bob
Phillips (who
is on the CD) and bassist Joel Forbes, both at The Jazz & Blues Company in
Carmel.
Of course CDs will be available, with Eddie and Becky signing. Call 624-6431
for
reservations to the concert.
Eddie and some of his pals, including Phillips and tuba maestro Alan Odea,
will also perform Sunday afternoon from 12:30 to 4:30 at the Big Sur River
Inn.
