Clevedon Jazz Club - 11 May 2006 - The Millennium Eagle Jazz Band

Stars of Long Weekend 2005! Clevedon Jazz audiences loved them and insisted we ask them back on a regular Club night. And so their appearance on Thursday 11 May at Clevedon Jazz Club's regular Walton Park Hotel venue is set to be a great evening.

The Millennium Eagle Jazz Band emerged as a direct result of the demise of the very popular Eagle Jazz Band, following the sad death of trombonist Tony Hobson in January 2005. Matt Palmer had recently folded his Millennium Jazz Band after having five successful years on the road, in order to join the Eagles so it was therefore thought appropriate to include Millennium in the name of the new band.

The 'Millennium' sports a healthy combination of youth and experience, Pete Brown - trumpet & valve trombone, and Brian Lawrence -bass, were both long serving members of the 'Eagles' after initially forging their musical partnership in the Potteries-based Mardi Gras Society Band during the 1970's. Matt Palmer joined in 2004 having worked extensively with Pete at Alton Towers theme park in Staffordshire. Young Drummer Julyan Aldridge has added youthful vigour to the engine room to allow the band to fire on all cylinders when required along with fellow newcomers Chris Etherington - banjo, and Andy Holdorf - trombone.

The bands wide repertoire is drawn from popular songs from the 1920's, 30's and 40's; 'Classic Jazz' compositions by King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, and Sydney Bechet plus New Orleans Marches, Rags, Stomps, Blues and Swing numbers. Whatever the band play, their major priorities are to entertain the audience and always maintain a high standard of musicianship and presentation.

Doors open at 8pm and the music starts at 8.30pm. Admission on the door, will be £7.50 for non-members and £6 for members. Further details of this event and all Clevedon Jazz Club activities can be had from Trev or Bill on 0700 5806 252 and on the Club's web site www.clevedonjazzclub.co.uk

Clevedon Jazz Club Suspends Twice Monthly Gigs from June 06

It is with deep regret that Clevedon Jazz Club have decided to suspend the Club's twice monthly events at the Walton Park Hotel with effect from June 2006.

Clevedon Jazz Club, with it's present lack of audience support, is suffering severe cash flow problems and in order to avoid further financial loss, has been forced to take this action now. The Club's future requires a radical rethink and its activities will remain suspended for the foreseeable future.

'Traditional jazz appears to have dwindling support in Clevedon at present. There does not appear to be a big enough, active audience in the Clevedon area to support a dedicated Club at the moment.'

The Club will fulfil its May programme of events with 'The Millennium Eagle Jazz Band' on Thursday 11 May and the last Club Night at the Walton Park will be on Thursday 25 May when the Club's old friends 'Crusty's All Sorts' are booked to entertain. The organisers hope to see you at one, or both of these evenings.

The Club's managers wish to thank the people of Clevedon, and srounding areas, for the support they have given the Club over the years. 'We have enjoyed providing you with the music you have enjoyed - I'm sorry it couldn't last'.
