It is a treat to read Ron Gable's "Jazz Advocate" newsletter regularly. Here
is a guy that in spite of the nay sayers, is making all genres of jazz
happen in Ohio. Some of the articles you see include the below. To see more
of what Ron is accomplishing visit and/or get on his mailing list:

Cheers,
Steve

JAZZ ADVOCATE Editor Comment:

I ask myself why it's taking so long to update a simple website; part of the
reason is changes to accommodate our new programs.

Jazz Advocate is currently working on four major projects to enhance jazz:

A Tri-City Jazz Society for Cincinnati, Columbus & Dayton.

A "Jazz Artists Guild" in Dayton to coincide with our visual and theatre
arts guilds.

A Youth in Jazz program showcasing younger players to the public.

A big band series to offer swing and ballroom dancing to the dancers.

This is in addition to the jazz for the ongoing Cannery Arts Design Center's
first Friday series and jazz at various venues for the upcoming Urban Nights
(Friday, May 19, 2006) in Downtown Dayton.

The site maintains an active list of jazz performances such as:

XAVIER UNIVERSITY SWING SERIES
******************************

Two of the great masters of swing will headline a performance of
nostalgic music at Gallagher Auditorium March 26 at 3 PM. Randy Reinhart
has adapted the lyrical trumpet work of Bobby Hackett (remember the haunting
trumpet on Jackie Gleason's records?) to his own swinging style. While
based in NYC, he is in great demand at swing festivals around the world.
Few musicians in the world play the classic swing trumpet as well as Randy.
John Sheridan and Randy have played together for over 25 years.
John is the consummate jazz piano/arranger performing in the mainstream
swing world. John is regarded as the first call accompanist by many top
jazz vocalists.
Working with Randy will be some very solid swing musicians
including local standouts John Von Ohlen - drums, Bill Gemmer - trombone and
Eric Sayer - bass, Chicago clarinetist Kim Cusak rounds out the group.

For information about future concerts please call 745-3161 or 1-800-344-4698
ext. 3161. Located at Xavier 3800 Victory Pkwy., Cincinnati, Ohio 45207
