Well since I was there with em' I can tell ya that they thought it
was, but it was given a new title and genre of Jazz fusion Funk, since
it was so diversified from what everyone labeled Jazz at that time.
It was too Jazz to be Rock & Roll and too rock and ROLL TO BE JAZZ.
Hence Stuck in the Middle and needed a totally new name to market it.
My My My what an intricate Web we have woven under the name of Jazz in
only 99 years or so huh?
Just What Is Jazz Anyway ??
I say it is whatever you want it to be except RAP and that too will
embrace Jazz sooner or later so get ready for it. Heck it may well
even have it's roots in Jazz, seems I heard somebody say on this list a
while back that Cab Calloway or somebody did a Rap style recording
before I was even born.
Who recalls that discussion??
Cheers,
Tom Wiggins
Saint Gabriel's Celestial Brass Band
Who play a mean version of:
Chameleon, Watermelon Man and Cantelope Island by Herbie Hancock &
Headhunters in N.O. Brass band style
and a pretty mean version of Cab Calloway's presentation of Caravan
too. not Dixieland but certainly OKOM !
