[Dixielandjazz] Improvising quote

Loved Vax's Coltrane quote about forgetting it (theory) when on the stand.

In a similar fashion, Miles Davis said something like:

"In the middle of a solo chorus when an idea suddenly springs into your
conscious mind and you are tempted to play it . . . DON'T, because you'll
f*** it up."

Also reminds one of some great jazz soloists who didn't know too much about
theory.

Sidney Bechet
Louis Armstrong
Bix Beiderbecke

They learned to communicate with music just like they learned to communicate
by speaking English. By hearing it, then imitating it, then later by
learning some rules, then by breaking those rules.

Might be a little different today with musical complexity but that is a
whole other subject.

Cheers,
Steve
