[Dixielandjazz] Public Liability

A couple of years ago I had a gig at Tahoe. Can't remember the name of the
casino but it was the one in which Sinatra used to be part owner. It was a
private party and we were hired by a gentleman who owned a computer company.
It was a Christmas party for his employees.

As we were setting up, someone from the casino came to us and asked if we
had liability insurance. We said no. They were not going to let us
perform.

The owner of the computer company had a talk with them & got it settled. I
think he told them that we would be covered under his companies policy.

IMO, it is not the casino's fault. It is the fault of lawyers & sue happy
public. You know, people can, & will, sue you for the most ridiculous
things. They can slip & fall. They can go into a restricted, private area
where they do not belong, trip over your instrument cases & sue you.

Until our laws are changed, we are at the mercy of unscrupulous lawyers &
the sue happy public.
