 Jim,

The reason The performers have a tendency to get a little tired is because,
what he is talking about is a Jazz festival, not a one night gig playing 3
45 minute sets.

At these Jazz festivals, they are held usually from around noon on Friday to
late on Sunday. Sometimes on 4 day weekends such as Memorial Day, they are
4 day festivals.

The various bands play (usually) one hour or 70 minute sets. But, they are
stretched out over the whole day.

For instance, a band may play a set at noon, one at 4:00 PM, one at 8:00 PM
& one at 11:00 PM.

In-between these sets, there is a lot of time for eating, drinking, napping,
etc. By the time you have played 3 sets, stretched out over 8 hours, then
had a big dinner & maybe some drinks, or maybe no dinner & a lot of drinks,
the musicians can be pretty tired by the last (fourth) set.

Sometimes the bands play only 3 sets during the 24 hour period. But, again,
the sets are over a long period of time.

Hope this explains it a bit.

Best,
