I just found out about the NY Times obit....when I was in grade school in  
Topeka, Kansas, Miss Hobbs was my music teacher.  I've been involved with  jazz 
for many years since I first heard Jay McShann in KC and he had young  Charlie 
Parker with his first combo.  I'm a good friend of the late Dick  Gibson who 
with his wife, Maddie, started the jazz party concept.
