Hebrew Melodies + Klezmer + Dixieland + Avant-Garde + Spike Jones. Now
that's a niche in the land of Bix. Elazar, take notice. :-) VBG

Java Jews perform at the River Music Experience
Quad City Times - By Mary Louise Speer
The Java Jews, a Klezmer band from Des Moines Iowa, will perform at the
Redstone Room, River Music Experience at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The band plays ³highly-Caffeinated² klezmer music, a blend of Yiddish and
Hebrew melodies combined with Dixieland, avant-garde jazz and a touch of
Spike Jones.
Abe Goldstein formed the group in 2002. The group was originally known as
the Temple B¹nai Jeshurun Klezmer Band. Members retired that name after
performances at Java Joes Coffee House in Des Moines and became known as the
³Java Jews.²
Klezmer music originated from the Eastern European Jewish communities of the
late 1800s and early 1900s. The music immigrated to United States with the
influx of European Jews and borrowed elements from jazz and pop music.
This event is sponsored by the Jewish Federation of the Quad-Cities, River
Music Experience and in part, by the Iowa Arts Council and National
Endowment for the Arts.
The cost is $3, and kids 12 and under are free. For more information contact
the Jewish Federation at (309) 793-1300.
