[Dixielandjazz] taking along the little lady( or not so little)

That's my whole point Ted. I want my wife to admire and like what I do as
much as anyone else but I know that she does but like salt on eggs. Some is
great and too much isn't. An attractive woman or in some places any woman
is fair game if she is sitting all alone or on the dance floor. You are
just dangling bait and don't be surprised if someone goes for it.
I think dragging the girlfriend or wife along is just insecurity on the guys
part. It's the same as the guy who calls his wife six or eight times a day
to check on her.
As some guys pointed out their wives / girlfriends are genuine fans or serve
a definite purpose like selling CD's or even just driving but that should be
the exception and not the rule.
There is a corollary to this too. One time we had a young woman about 20
who was really good looking and a dynamite singer. We had rehearsed her
several times and she had worked for us about six or eight times so her
singing with the band wasn't something new. We were playing a country club
and unknown to us she invited her boy friend. Just the fact that she was on
stage and guys were looking at her (duh!!!) set him off and he took her off
the stage after the first set and they left. We never saw her again and she
wouldn't return calls. You would have thought that we were making her strip
or something or that this was some sort of low down dive.
Some of the bands consider their gigs to be social nights out for the wives
and themselves. Trooping in an extra group (wives) to a party or reception
to eat, drink and dance is just not professional in my book but does happen
too often.
