Our band has been together in present form for about 6 years now, three of
the guys out of 6 for over 10 years.
All have same wives except one and his new wife comes to every gig. Other
wives do not, except for a gig or two every year, like our steady on New
Year's Eve where they are invited as guests of the venue.
As for Martha, my wife, she comes to about 4 a year, mainly to the larger
venues where we sell a lot of CDs and handles that end of the business.
She is a jazz fan both Dixieland and mainstream. Spent many nights at the
Central Plaza about three feet from the end of Conrad Janis' trombone way
back when. :-) VBG
But a bigger fan of folk music.
We met at a jazz club in 1960 where I was playing with bassist Chuck
Traeger, pianist Gene Schroeder and trombonist Lee Gifford (whatever
happened to him?) It was love at first sight.
Second date was at a loft cutting session where Kenny Davern cut me to
ribbons. She said; "I don't know if I should day this but he plays better
than your do". I admired her honesty and we all still joke about it when we
run into each other.
Cheers,
Steve Barbone
