I love the "one for the audience" and  "one for the band" scheme
Without realizing it I've done it all my life, sometimes switching
to "two for the audience". It works.

But there's another item. There's a difference between playing
and performing. When there is a big crowd to conquer, performing
overrules playing. In a jazz club with devoted jazzfans playing
overrules performing.

Finding the right balance, that is what musicianship is all about.

After all, we are all whores, and our pimp is: succes!
