Larry and others ask about -
'a good source for musical tidbits about these tunes'

The best source I know is -
'Tell Your Story - a dictionary of jazz and blues recordings 1917 - 50'
by Eric Townley

e.g. 'Yellow Dog Blues' -
'Nickname of the Yazoo Delta Railroad in Mississippi.
The lyrics, 'where the Southern cross the Yellow Dog'
refers to the town of Moorhead in Southern Flower County,
where the Southern Railroad crosses the Yazoo Delta Railroad,
the latter now part of Illinois Central Railroad' ...

Subject: [Dixielandjazz] Tunes - Composer History

Is there any book in print that gives a succinct history of tunes and
composers from lets say 1900-1930

Failing that where online would be a good source for musical tidbits about
these tunes.

Speaking of that the other night I watched a show on the history of Dogs.
It seems that the Louisiana Yellow Dog is a unique breed of dogs and is
genetically directly related to a group of dogs in India and another in
China which makes them contemporary with the migration of humans across the
land bridge that existed between Alaska and Russia. These dogs run more or
less wild and are only slightly domesticated. All live in extremely
primitive and remote parts of the world.

Might make an interesting intro for the Yellow Dog Blues.
