Actually there are a couple that I know of, listmate Bruce Strangeland
has a band, and there is the spirit of 29 Dixieland Band ran by Elliott
??? There was another one in Orinda/Lafayette a while back but I have
not seen or heard of them in a long time, they used to play at
Freddie's Pizza Parlour once in a while. Older guys as I recall.
Can't remember the name , but I think one of them used to be on the
DJML when I first discovered it and joined up. Seems he was about 80
something and had some computer problems, with posting sometimes, maybe
he just gave up.
Cheers,
Tom Wiggins

Subject: [Dixielandjazz] Looking for a Trombone Player who can Read
Looking at it again, I don't think blue bone express is the band in
question
that placed the following ad:
> We are a long established traditional Dixieland band playing in the
style of
> Lu Waters and Turk Murphys' San Francisco sound. We are looking for a
> trombone player who is experienced with Dixieland Jazz and can read
music.
> We rehearse in Oakland, and perform often. Please contact us for
details.
Here's why: (according to the Bluebone website and sound clips)
1) Blue Bone Express was established in late 2004. First gig, Fall 2004.
That is certainly not a "long established Dixieland Band".
2) Blue Bone Express does not play in the Turk Murphy Lu Watters Style.
And
certainly does not have a "San Francisco" sound. (listen on their site)
http://blueboneexpress.com/index.html
Therefore, unless they are trying to fool people, they don't come
anywhere
close to the first sentence in the ad. Wow, could there be 2 trad bands
in
Oakland, or three counting Wiggins?
Cheers,
Steve
