Dear Dick:

Again I am asking help from you. We are doing a Sax Appeal concert in celebration of my Moms life, see below, and are in need of a bass player who can do a Cha Cha Cha rhythm for a 15 min. special that Bob Murphy will be doing during the first break. (See his E-mail below also.)

If you can post this and the attach information to the list I would greatly appreciate it. Anyone needing information can contact me. We will pay for the gig of course. I wanted to post the information about the concert anyway as it is free for all.

Hugs

Judie

Hi, Larry, Judie, and Laurie. Thanks for making this
thing (Sax Appeal) go. As I mentioned before, the two
tunes I plan to do in the 15-minute cha-cha-cha
dancing set are "Rico Vacilón" and "El Manisero," also
known as "Peanut Vendor." Like most salsa charts,
these are harmonically simple but rhythmically
complex. I am having piano charts written by a Bay
Area arranger. Rich Owens of the Natural Gas Jazz
Band has agreed to learn the two Latin charts. I also
can easily burn CDs with these two tunes. I have
three examples of "El Manisero," including the "Peanut
Vendor" version sung by Louis Armstrong. So the moldy
figs can't say this tune has no trad jazz roots.
Let's use Larry's swinging bass-playing friend on
upright bass. I will try to find an experienced salsa
drummer (I'll pay any artist's fees required). Larry
can play lead on alto sax, soprano sax, trombone,
trumpet, cornet, or whatever. I will transpose the
lead sheet when I know the pitch and clef of Larry's
chosen instrument. So that makes a quintet — lead
horn, piano, bass, drums, and conga. I'm still
working on getting a dancing couple to come teach us
the cha-cha-cha in 15 minutes.

Love, Bob
