Thought you old farts might like to see a newsletter snippet from a Swing
Dancer mover and shaker friend of ours who lives in North New Jersey. It
went to about 200 young swing dancers in that area and some more mobile
dancers from other parts of the country. He puts out a monthly newsletter to
the swing dancers in the Northeast USA.

Yep, you can get these kids to YOUR Festival if YOU try.

We are playing 4 swing dances at Universities in this area this spring. Age
group 17 to 35. Packed events 200 to 400, to see one band play for 3 hours.

Meanwhile, "Kids don't like this music." Nah!!!!!!!

Alex, who write this newsletter is 26 years old

Cheers,
Steve Barbone

Hey Everyone,

The NYC Balboa Weekend was a lot fun, I haven't danced that much Bal in some
time...In any case I already have both DJ and Film Presentation gigs for
both March and April...But first I wanted to let you all know about an event
that is happening this Sunday in North Jersey...

Every year the New Jersey Jazz Society puts on an event called the "Pee Wee
Russell Memorial Stomp", it is now in its 37th year and this will be my
third year in attendance...The first time I was there I was one of the only
Lindy Hopper however the music was so damn good I sat at a table rocking my
head up and down to the rhythm for possibly 4 hours straight...and thus
driving back I think my neck ended up being sore for a few days
afterwards...Often times I am not familiar with the bands that are booked
there however I am never disappointed in the quality of any of the bands'
performances...This year however I am familiar with two of the bands that
are booked, the first is the Harlem Blues and Jazz Band and the headliner is
none other than Vince Giordano and His Nighthawks! If you are not familiar
with them think Mora's Modern Rhythmists but on the east coast...Vince
Giordano also recently recorded a decent portion of the soundtrack for the
Martin Scorsese film the Aviator which came out only last year...Here's a
little snippet:

The New Jersey Jazz Society presents

The 37th Annual
Pee Wee Russell Memorial Stomp

Sunday, March 5, 2006, noon - 5 pm

!! FOUR HOT JAZZ BANDS !!

at the Birchwood Manor,
111 North Jefferson Road, Whippany, N.J.

FEATURING

Harlem Blues and Jazz Band

Smith Street Society Jazz Band

Warren Vaché Trio

Vince Giordano's Nighthawks

The event is $30 at the door, $25 if you prepay and $20 if you are a member
of NJJS...In any case for the quality of music you are going to hear the
price is well worth it...Last year about 8-10 of us attended the event from
Philly and New Jersey and we all had the best time...There is a huge wood
floor in front of the bands and most of the day we were the ones taking the
most advantage of it...In any case I want as many dancers as possible to
make it to this because I know the organization appreciates the support...In
addition there is a huge Trad Jazz/Classic Swing CD table selling tons of
stuff that you can't find in store...Feel free to forward this information
to anyone who may be interested...Here's their website for more information:
