Jim Cullum Jr. is seeking qualified applicants to audition for the
permanent full-time trombone position with the Jim Cullum Jazz Band at
his jazz nightclub, Jim Cullum's Landing in San Antonio TX. 

The band plays Monday through Saturday at the Landing. There is some
travel involved, as well as recording for the series on public radio,
Riverwalk Jazz.

Candidates will be considered without regard to race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, or gender. 

Physical requirements:

1. Must be willing to relocate to San Antonio, Texas. 
2. Must be physically able and willing to travel by air and auto
approximately 6 weeks a year total.
3. Must be physically capable of playing 6 nights a week, from
8-midnight weekdays and 8-1 on weekends.

Musical requirements:

1. Must be intimately familiar with the work of hot pre-WWII trombonists
such as Kid Ory, Miff Mole, J.C. Higginbotham, Jack Teagarden, and later
exponents such as Abe Lincoln, Lou McGarrity, Cutty Cutshall, and Vic
Dickinson. 
2. Must possess a long-standing and deep interest in pre-war classic hot
jazz, i.e. King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Sidney
Bechet, Bix Beiderbecke,  etc. For more info on the style of the Jim

3. Must be able to handle the trombone's high range, play live without a
microphone, and have adequate reading skills.
4. Arranging skill a plus but not required.
