Dear Steve,
Not as dramatic, but your story recalled for me one involving Kuzz Curry, a
drummer mate (sadly no longer with us).
A real character, besotted with classic jazz and who loved/lived life to the
full.
His home was in 'the hills', then outside Melbourne, but now in the
suburbs!. Many years ago on his way home from a band job in town Kuzz felt
extremely tired, stopped the car and went to sleep.
He was woken by two large policemen who wanted know what he was doing, miles
from anywhere in his car in the middle of the night.
He explained that he has been working musically (but did not mention the
booze), had felt tired and decided to have a short nap.
"What?", said the copper, "in the centre of a narrow mountain road, with
your headlights on! Get home - and drive carefully sir."
That was in the 'good old' 50s before breathalysers and blatant revenue
raising.
Kind regards,
Bill.
PS: Listmate and musician Adrian Ford could tell a few falling asleep on gig
stories.
I wouldn't dare dob him in!
