Dear Bob,
We do have 'matrix' numbers for the Hines' discs. [287 to 294.]
And yes, I have tried relating them to other recordings in the series, as
others have done over the years.
Unfortunately, QRS also drew from other record company sources, including
Paramount and Gennett, during its two year short life and allocated/added
its own identification numbers, which could, perhaps, be 'control' or
pressing matrixes.
The Hines' sides could have been recorded in Chicago or Richmond.
The Long Island location was probably added by the early discographers, as
that is where (I believe) QRS was based. It also had a Chicago address.
The answer is probably somewhere in an old Record Research or similar
magazine. Nothing in Storyville, that I could find.
I am still looking into this query, but certainly like your 28th Dec 1928
theory, about the 2 in 28 having been dropped accidentally somewhere along
the research line.
Kind regards,
Bill.
