Carla Bley: interesting antedote connected with that name, and adds a bit
to the "celebrities playing with top musicians" threads.

During my music business connections with Pink Floyd (1978 to 1985) I was
out to dinner with drummer Nick Mason (sorry for the name dropping!). He
had just done a solo album with Carla Bley & a batch of the Avant Garde
people in NYC. An interesting, swinging album. I asked Nick about it. His
answer says a lot about the man: "I'm so lucky to have this fame so that I
can play with people of this stature"...or something along those lines.

When Roger Watters left the group, a Spanish rag said that Nick had become a
used car salesman. They neglected to say that he has one of the largest
collection of Ferraris in the world, and sells & buys them regularly. Not
exactly the impression the magazine left. :>
