NEW YEAR'S JAZZ: Jazz from across the country rings in the New Year  
on National Public Radio's ``Toast of the Nation'' for eight hours  
New Year's Eve. It can be heard here beginning 7 p.m. on KQED-FM  
(88.5) and 6 p.m. KCSM-FM (91.1).

The schedule includes live shows from New York, Boston, Kansas City  
and Oakland.

Among the highlights (all times at KCSM are an hour earlier):

• Kansas City vocalist Lisa Henry at 8 p.m. from the Blue Room at the  
American Jazz Museum. The hour will also include a never-aired show  
from alto saxophonist Bobby Watson's Kansas City Jump Band at Jazz at  
Lincoln Center in New York, and a tribute to pianist Jay McShann  
(1916-2006).

• At 9 p.m., the radio premiere of The Big River Concert from the  
Chicago Symphony Center in September 2006. Hosted by Branford  
Marsalis, the concert features New Orleans music from Sidney Bechet  
and Jelly Roll Morton, to the street beat of ``Hey Pocky Way,''  
featuring drummer Herlin Riley, pianist Ellis Marsalis, trumpeter  
Nicholas Payton, and reed man Victor Goines.

• Steven Bernstein's Millennial Territory Orchestra performs at 10  
p.m. from New York's Tonic Club.

• A fall 2006 Derek Trucks Band show starts at 12:15 a.m. from the  
Keswick Theatre near Philadelphia. This program from the fall,  
features the young rock guitarist who ventures freely into jazz.

• Pianist McCoy Tyner is on the air at 1:15 a.m., live from Yoshi's  
in Oakland, with Joe Lovano on tenor saxophone, bassist Christian  
McBride, and Jeff Watts on drums.
