While I'm not aware of the cover you refer to, I can understand it in terms of the overt discrimination in the South. Manufacturers who sell on a national basis follow the laws of the most stringent state in order to manufacture and package their products for sale in all states.

I am sure one of the experts out there can tell you which
cover. The one I was thinking of was a 10 inch Lp
on Decca. If I can find my Lp I'll scan the cover.

"Gene Norman Presents An Art Tatum Concert" on
Harmony HL 7006 12 inch mono - white hands etc.

I just checked a bunch of Bud Powell Lps. All had
drawings - non descript as to race.

Just for the record [no pun intended]
I studied with and worked for Sy Oliver 1949 thru 1955.
How many know that he was black?
Of course the people who knew that Sy wrote and played
for Lunceford probably assumed it.
Today's puzzler:
Without looking it up, what was Sy Oliver's given first name?

Cheers,
