[Dixielandjazz] Is Rap a New Jazz Genre?

The Jazz-Rap genre really isn't a new thing. Back in the 90s 
groups such as Digable Planets, De La Soul & A Tribe Called 
Quest experimented with basic hip hop rhythms and the harmonics 
primarily from the cool and bebop eras. It never really was that 
popular but did manage to raise a few eyebrows.

A couple of years ago the rap group Outkast did a cover of the 
tune My Favorite Things which was sort of Jazz-Rap and did enjoy 
some popularity.
