Gary Kiser asked:
Q. How many on this list go to BOTH jazz festivals AND jazz parties?
I do! Each has something different but equally wonderful to offer.
But as you stated, the jazz parties are more expensive (and the musicians
paid what they¹re worth), so on my limited budget, I prefer the festivals
that include an all-star lineup. Sacramento Jazz Jubilee is the best deal in
the festival world because they have it all - jazz party and festival -- at
the low price of a festival. Other good ones for a mixture of party and
festival: Dixieland Monterey (early March), and the L.A. Sweet & Hot Music
Festival (end of August). As you can see, my ³limited budget² does not take
me outside of California, so please forgive the mention of only CA
festivals. I¹m sure there are others all around the world.
As for Randy¹s CD review, I say ³to each his own,² and it doesn¹t matter
what part of the world they come from. All I know is that Randy had
performed with this particular group at a jazz party (Chautauqua, I think),
and he said it was ³magic.² So, they put together this recording. Whether or
not it¹s YOUR brand of ³magic² is up to you. There are so many kinds of
³magic² in the world. ³S¹Wonderful² isn¹t it?
Love and hugs,
Nancy
