[Dixielandjazz] Listening to Jazz

I am usually a lurker on this list. As a non musician I would like to
express my appreciation to all the musician participants for giving me an
opportunity to glimpse inside their world even though I can only be on the
edges - I do not always understand the musical references in the posts.

I am however a dyed in the wool traditional jazz fan. No matter how skillful
the musicians in a band, I cannot enjoy the music if they themselves do not
appear to be enjoying it. I could name at least one West Coast band that to
my limited knowledge appears to have skillful musicians but who seem bored
as they are playing. I avoid them whenever there is an alternative.
