[Dixielandjazz] Cutting contests

This idea of having "cutting contests" could be a great idea to bring 
new life to music festivals, for example, the Sacramento Music 
festival. Start with perhaps half a dozen bands, then over a 2-3 day 
period vote one off, go to 5, then down to 4, etc until one band reigns 
supreme, with some kind of cash reward as the prize.  This idea is 
extremely popular on talent shows on TV, so why not go with the tide?  
[A variation on this them might be to find 2 bands with the highest age 
total of all the members in the band, and have them continuously go 
against each other, alternating tunes,  until someone dies or, 
equivalently, 2 members have to be removed by ambulance]
