I suspect that Sheik's reference to the audio being "flawed" comes from a
review of the 2005 issue, where the reviewer didn't like the remastered
sound. It's true that the sound is different to previous incarnations -
it's definitely less harsh in the top end. A comparison with the earlier
Rounder 4 CD (music-only) set is interesting - there is more distortion on
the earlier set.
I'm very happy with the 2005 box and am glad that the set is coming back
into print. It's a cliché, but true, that this material should alwways be
available and listened-to by everyone with any interest in jazz. Go for it,
