I have listened to "smooth" jazz in an effort to understand and appreciate
it. There are some very talented and capable players doing it, so I thought I
might learn something. My main difficulty is figuring out where the
choruses start and stop. It appears there are no choruses as we know them. I have
searched for even 8-bar phrases, but cannot find them either.
======sometimes true, but you may not have listened to enough to as yet
identify some that actually adhere to this more conventional format....
I will listen to an entire track with the feeling that is a long
introduction, and they never get to the tune. Or is it just a long verse with no
chorus at all?
=========some may actually do as you say, also, different sections can and
do happen on cue in a live situation...this allows for greater solo expression
/ expansion....
If there is someone who can tell me what to listen for,
=====well above are some clues....but maybe if your interested you should go
to the equivalent smooth jazz forums...but..be careful...you may end up
liking it : )
I would maybe get a handle on understanding this stuff.
====relax : ) in all styles of music there is good and bad.....but ...your
good and bad may not agree with someone elses....
