Certainly. It contains melody, harmony and syncopation. As well as bent
notes and slurs. Lots of (w)hole note variations. Similar to what a good
tubist (or trombonist) does these days. :-) VBG.
As an aside, Louis Prima was one of the best cheese cutters around. Not sure
if he learned it in his New Orleans days, or later in his Las Vegas days. He
could toot with the best of them and after doing so, (often) would vacate
that area of the bandstand, blame and point to one of the other musicians.
Meanwhile, the rest of the band would try and hold their breath, and/or
escape the noxious fumes as best they could.
A continuing joke for those who played with him and/or knew him. Prima was a
fun guy as well as originally a great New Orleans Jazz trumpeter. He figured
out how to entertain Las Vegas style and make a very good living thereby.
Cheers,
Steve Barbone
