The tune "Made a Monkey Out of Me" wasn't written about the Scopes trial. It was in response to the crazy stories about Dr. Serge Voronoff, who implanted monkey glands into male volunteers to increase sexual potency, way back in 1920. (Don't try this at home.)
Recorded by the Original Memphis Melody Boys in 1923 -- way before the Scopes trial.

In addition to "You're Bound to Look Like A Monkey When You Get Old"
mentioned by Ed Metz, and played by Tex Wyndham's bands every once in a
while, the following songs were written about the Scopes trial and you can
hear sound bites at:

Additionally, one of the prosecuting attorneys named Sue Kerr Hicks (male)
suspected that he was the model for Johnny Cash's "A Boy Named Sue" made
famous in 1969 at Folsom prison. Shel Silberstein was the lyricist and
though everyone denied Mr. Hicks was model, it seems that Shel S. had
visited a place where Mr. Hicks was, 6 months before the song was made
famous and seen his name.
Cheers,
Steve Barbone
