Just when you thought it was safe to come in from the burning CD's
from records thread, another one of the ubiquitous catalogs showed up in
my mailbox. ON page 57 of the catalog from a company called First Street
is a unit that would appear to be one step above boxes with the built in
three speed record players and AM/FM radio.
There is no mention of cassette player inputs of any kind.. They would
probably tell you if there is.
It has a remote control and a built in CD player/burner. The price is
$399 or about what it would cost to purchase one of the name brand stand
alone CD burners like the Philips, or the others mentioned on the list,
plus a suitable record player with pre amp to feed into it. Perhaps a
bit pricey for the low end users who want to put their records on CD,
and not high enough for the audiophiles on the list to take it
seriously, but it is a simple looking alternative for those who do not
want to attempt to do it all on their current computer, or spend a
couple thousand as suggested by at least one member of the list.. One
compact unit. You would still have to edit the recording if you feel it
needs it. Standard CD-R and CD-RW recordings. $30 for the software at
Best Buys.
Preserve a copy of your prize recordings on CD. But as someone said,
don't throw them out or sell them yet.
