[Dixielandjazz] Roses

The first time I ever heard a-tishoo (or however it is spelled) was on an
English-produced documentary about the plague. (The rhyme is a reference to
the plague, its symptoms, and its treatment.)

The only place I've ever heard "ashes" was in the USA. However, in my
neighborhood we didn't use either. We went from the posies directly to
falling down.

Hi John:

Is that anything like driving on the correct side of the road?? :))

I guess we lost a lot in the translation into English huh? or maybe
into Amurrikun as they say in Texas.

Or perhaps Ashes , Ashes is Ebonics, if so it stated a long long time
before they invented ebonics

I heard it that was in elementary school and it is still taught that
way in these parts to day.

Cheers,

Tom Wiggins

Tom Wiggins quoted an old English folk song :

"Ring around the rosies
pocket full of posies"

Which more correctly should read :

Ring-a-ring-a-roses,
A pocketful of posies,
A-tishoo, a-tishoo,
We all fall down.

Just wanted to demonstrate that I am an unacknowledged expert in such
matters.
